Behind the Name

FAITH. FAMILY.
FRIENDS.
One of the first questions we get when we mention Né Bob’s Beach Shack—and by the way, it’s pronounced “Nay”—is, “Where’d you get that name from?” People usually ask with a curious look, maybe even a little confusion. And we get it—it’s not your average beach house name. So we wanted to take a moment to share the heart behind it.
It was a cold, quiet winter morning when we got the call. Our phone rang, and it was one of our sisters—René. She told us the news: she had just been diagnosed with leukemia. Time stood still for a moment. We remember exactly where we were, what the light looked like coming through the kitchen window, how the world seemed to pause. Our heart sank. A flood of emotions us me all at once—fear, disbelief, sadness, helplessness. How could this be happening?
Just two hours later, the phone rang again. This time, the call was on a happier note—we had the opportunity to get a beach house. It felt surreal. Two calls in one morning. One filled with uncertainty and heartbreak. The other filled with possibility and excitement. The contrast overwhelmed us, but it also made us reflect.
Life can have highs and lows—sometimes back-to-back. In a single day, you can feel broken and blessed. That day reminded me just how much we need God to steady us, and how important it is to hold our people close. Faith. Family. Friends. Those are the anchors when life gets stormy.
As we started dreaming about what this little beach shack could become, we kept thinking about René. About all the memories we’ve made over the years. Growing up, we used to call her “Né Bob”—a playful, silly nickname that somehow stuck over the years. It made us laugh. It still does. So, when it came time to name the beach house, we knew exactly what it had to be: Né Bob’s Beach Shack. It’s more than just a name. It’s a tribute. A reminder of what really matters.
Our wish is that Né Bob’s becomes a place where people come together—to rest, to reconnect, to make memories that last long after the sun sets over the ocean. We hope it’s a place where laughter echoes off the walls, where stories are shared on the screen porch, and where relationships grow deeper. A place where joy and healing meet—just like they did for me that unforgettable winter morning.
